The Northern Illinois Huskies put the polish on an undefeated regular season in Mid-American Conference play on Friday with a 49-7 dismantling of Eastern Michigan. With the victory, the Huskies will move on to play the No. 23 Kent State Golden Flashes in the MAC Championship Game on Friday, Nov. 30.
Against Eastern Michigan, the Huskies got out to a less-than-stellar start, but eventually took a 7-0 lead with a 25-yard touchdown run from Akeem Daniels. The Eagles responded quickly, though, with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Benz to Matt Boyd to tie the game.
However, after a 93-yard kick return touchdown by Tommylee Lewis on the following kickoff, the Huskies took the lead and never looked back, scoring 42 unanswered points to blowout the hosting Eagles. The most explosive performance for NIU came from Daniels, who finished with four touchdowns and 105 yards rushing on just 11 carries. Quarterback Jordan Lynch finished with 178 yards passing and a touchdown, along with 114 yards rushing.
The MAC Championship Game against Kent State will be played in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. ET.
