Chicago Bears fan William Christopher Pettry was killed at a Jacksonville bar early Sunday morning.
Pettry, 42, of Lake Villa, IL, was stabbed at Fion MacCool's, a Jacksonville restaurant and bar, after he was involved in an altercation. He was later pronounced dead. Matthew Hinson, who was found at the scene, was arrested after the crime.
As reported by Jon Greenberg of ESPN Chicago, the release revealed that Pettry was in town because of the Bears game.
Bears head coach Lovie Smith offered his condolences to the Pettry family.
"Like we talked last week, our fans were outstanding," Smith said. "As I said yesterday, from the hotel and of course throughout the game, we had a lot of people who came down to support us. Chris Pettry was one of them, one of our loyal supporters that was killed as he came to Jacksonville to support his favorite team. So our prayers definitely go out to his family."
