For the sixth time in eight years, Northwestern has beaten Iowa, taking down the Hawkeyes 28-17 in a game which wasn’t nearly as close as the final score might indicate.

Northwestern rode the hot hand and quick feet of quarterback Kain Colter to the victory, as the quarterback accounted for four total touchdowns on Saturday afternoon. The junior had rushing scores of five, two and four yards, for the Wildcats, which improved to 7-2 with the win. Colter added a 47-yard, third quarter touchdown pass as well. Running back Vendrel Mark also accounted for 162 yards on the ground on the ground, putting him over 1,000 for the season.

As for Iowa, it was another disappointing loss for a club which has now been beaten in three of their last five games.

Quarterback James Vandenberg led the Hawkeyes with two short rushing touchdowns, including one with six minutes left in the game which gave Iowa one last gasp.

However the Hawkeyes failed to score on the ensuing possession, and the Wildcats held on for the victory.

Box Score Hero: The only answer here is Kain Colter, who was simply magnificent for the Wildcats. He finished the afternoon accounting for four total touchdowns, with three on the ground and one through the air.

Rankings Ramifications: With the victory, there’s a chance Northwestern, which is now 7-2, could find themselves ranked in the Top 25 when the polls come out on Sunday.

But Did They Cover? Yes. Northwestern entered this game as a six-point favorite.
