Northern Illinois vs. Western Michigan score: Broncos take surprising 21-14 lead to halftime.

Don’t look now, but after one half of play an upset could be brewing in the MAC title chase, as Western Michigan leads heavily favored Northern Illinois 21-14.

Western Michigan, which entered the game at just 3-5 and 1-3 in MAC play has ridden a hot start from quarterback Tyler Van Tubbergen to take the early lead. Through two quarters, Van Tubbergen has completed 15-of-25 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receivers Tommylee Lewis and Da’Ron Brown have a touchdown catch each, while running back Dareyon Chance added the third score for the Broncos. Western Michigan entered Saturday losers of three of their last four.

As for Northern Illinois, their offense has come almost entirely on the back of quarterback Jordan Lynch. The Huskies' signal-caller has rushed for 75 yards on 13 carries, and also tossed for 95 yards and two touchdown scores as well.

Still, it’s not the output the Huskies were expecting, as they entered Saturday with seven straight wins, including four by double-figures.
