The Northwestern Wildcats (6-1, 2-1 Big Ten) welcome the rested Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-2, 1-1) to Ryan Field on Saturday, with the Wildcats looking to continue their early season success. With its six wins, Northwestern is the first bowl-eligible team in the Big Ten this season.
The Wildcats are coming off a 21-13 win over Minnesota, while the Cornhuskers enjoyed a bye last weekend. It is the third time this season Northwestern will face a team coming off a bye week.
Pat Fitzgerald's team is No. 2 in the Big Ten in rushing defense, allowing just 109.9 yards per game. The Wildcats are also one of the best rushing team's in the conference, averaging almost 230 yards per game on the ground, spearheaded by tailback Venric Mark and quarterback Kain Colter.
Northwestern has compiled the 6-1 mark this season against some mediocre ballclubs, but the competition picks up starting with this weekend's game against Nebraska. After the contest with the Cornhuskers, the Wildcats will face Iowa at home, before road games against Michigan and Michigan State.
