Zambrano Retires?

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any stranger between Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs, Zambrano told Cubs Manager Mike Quade he planned on retiring after a horrible outing Friday in Atlanta.

Big Z had an awful outing for the Cubs in a 10-4 loss to the Braves. The righty gave up five homers to the Braves in just four and a third innings of work. Zambrano was ejected by home plate umpire Tim Timmons after he threw a pitch at Chipper Jones after back-to-back homers by Dan Uggla and Freddie Freeman.

While in the locker room Zambrano cleaned out his locker and left the stadium before the game ended. He also told members of the Cubs staff he was considering retirement.

Zambrano was probably just emotional and not thinking clearly at the time of that statement, but if he did throw his last pitch for the Cubs are you really surprised with how his career ended?
