The agent for Carlos Marmol is sure missing out on an endorsement opportunity. Heart medication. Carlos Marmol pitched out of a bases loaded no out jam to help the Cubs hold on to a 4-3 victory Thursday in the series finale with Washington.
Ryan Zimmerman got the scoring started off in the first inning with a solo homerun in the first inning. The Cubs would tie things in the fourth on a rare triple from Alfonso Soriano. Things would remain tied until the seventh when Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run homer to left to give the Cubs a 3-1 lead. Carlos Pena followed Ramirez with a solo shot of his own to extend the lead to 4-1. Washington wouldn’t go away though as they plated one in the eighth and one in the ninth but fell short 4-3 in the series finale.
Ryan Dempster pitched one of his better games of the season Thursday for the Cubs. Dempster went seven innings and allowed just the one run on three hits. The Cubs righty improved to 10-8 on the season. Carlos Marmol made things way to close for comfort in the ninth but went on to earn his 26th save.
Jordan Zimmerman pitched ok for Washington on Thursday but ran out of gas in the seventh inning. Zimmerman went six and two-thirds and allowed four runs on nine hits. The Wisconsin native fell to 7-10 on the season.
The Cubs will now hit the road for a weekend stop in Atlanta. First game will be Friday evening at Turner Field.
