Though the White Sox lost their opportunity to sweep the first place Tigers when they fell on Tuesday night, they still can clinch a series victory with a win on Wednesday. Doing so would pull them back to 3 1/2 games behind the first place Tigers, a position that is still very much within the AL Central race.
John Danks will take to the hill to try to grab the win for the Sox. Danks, 3-8 with a 3.92 ERA and 1.32 WHIP, is coming off a no decision against Kansas City in which he threw seven shutout innings, giving up just five hits and one walk while striking out six. In his last game against Detroit, Danks took the loss, after allowing three runs on nine hits over 6.0 innings pitched. He also walked two and struck out eight in that game. This year, Austin Jackson is 2-for-4 against Danks with a double.
Max Scherzer will start for the Tigers on Wednesday. Scherzer, 11-5 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.37 WHIP, recently held the Twins to just one run on four hits and a walk over seven innings. In his last game against the White Sox, Scherzer pitched eight innings of two run baseball, but still took the loss. Carlos Quentin is 2-for-6 against Scherzer this season, with a home run, while Juan Pierre is 5-for-8 with a double.
The weather in Chicago is forecast to be stormy and hot, with a game time temperature in the upper 80's. First pitch, weather permitting, is at 1:10 P.M. CDT, and the game will be televised on CSN and FS-D HD.
