Cedric Benson, one of the biggest draft busts in Bears history, is in trouble with the law again.
↵Ricky Doyle of Your News Now in Austin reports that Benson is in Travis County Jail after he was arrested and charged with assault on a family member. The charge is a Class A misdemeanor.
↵Benson was cut by the Bears in June of 2008 after he had been arrested twice in a five-week period, both times for alcohol-related offenses. The Bengals picked him up after the Bears cut him, and he’s been with Cincinnati since then. He is set to become a free agent when the lockout ends.
↵The Bears took Benson fourth overall in the 2006 NFL draft and he totaled just 1,593 yards in three seasons in Chicago. Among the future Pro Bowlers the Bears passed on to take Benson are Antrel Rolle, DeMarcus Ware, Shawne Merriman, Jammal Brown, Aaron Rodgers, Roddy White, Heath Miller and Logan Mankins.
