The Cubs on Monday evening used their first round pick (ninth pick overall) to select high school infielder Javier Baez from Arlington Country Day School in Jacksonville, Florida.
↵Baez was ranked to be the seventh-best overall position player and the fifth-best high school position player in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
↵The 18 year old native of Puerto Rico is six-foot-one and 205 pounds. He bats and throws right handed. This past season he hit .771 and struckout only three times in 115 plate appearances.
↵The Cubs next pick is the 68th overall. The draft will conclude on Wednesday.
