A day after giving up 19 runs in their double header against San Francisco, the road won't get any easier for the Cubs as they look for a victory against the Giants. On Wednesday they'll have to try to get to Giants' ace Tim Lincecum, while hoping their battered pitching staff can hang on.
The Cubs will send Ryan Dempster to the mound in Wednesday's start. Dempster, who has rattled off a string of decent starts in his last few outings, is 5-6 with a 5.31 ERA and 1.49 WHIP. In his last game against San Francisco, Dempster earned the win after throwing six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out eleven. In that game, the only Giant who hit Dempster well was Aubrey Huff, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Lincecum, at 6-6 with a 3.16 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, will look to match his most recent start as he takes the mound against the Cubs. In his last game, aganist Minnesota, he earned the win after seven innings of shutout baseball in which he gave up just three htis and two walks, while striking out tweleve. In his career against the Cubs, Lincecum is 3-3 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.
The weather in Chicago is forecast to be clear with a game time temperature in the mid-70s. First pitch is at 7:05 P.M., CDT, and the game will be televised on WGN and CSN-BA.
