Cubs Host Giants In Day-Night Double Header

The Cubs will welcome the San Francisco Giants back to Wrigley Field as they open their series with a day-night double header. The first game of the set is a make up of the postponed May 15th game between the teams.

Pitching in the first game for the Cubs will be Doug Davis. Davis, at 1-6 with a 5.01 ERA and 1.69 WHIP, is still looking for his second win of the season. His only victory on the year came in a start against the Yankees on June 17th, when he managed to give up only one run on three hits in 7.1 innings pitched. In his last game against the Giants, Davis earned the loss, pitching five innings while giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk, while striking out six. Aaron Rowand was 1-for-3 in that game against Davis with a double.

The Giants will counter in the first game with Ryan Vogelsong. Vogelsong, at 5-1 with a 1.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP, has been the rock the Giants rotation has depended on as they've dealt with injuries to starters like Barry Zito. In Vogelsong's last game against the Cubs, he threw six innings of shutout baseball, giving up just seven hits and one walk while striking out seven. Starlin Castro was 2-for-3 in that game.

In the night game of the doubleheader, the Cubs will send Rodrigo Lopez to the mound. Lopez is 0-1 with a 6.59 ERA and 1.76 WHIP on the year, though he has mostly thrown in relief. In his career against San Francisco, Lopez is 0-3 with a 6.97 ERA and 1.77 WHIP.

Meanwhile, the Giants will counter with returning starter Barry Zito. Zito has been on the disabled list since April with a right foot sprain. He made three starts prior to his trip to the DL, over which he was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. In his career against the Cubs, he is 1-3 with a 4.84 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Aramis Ramirez is 4-for-10 with one double and one home run against Zito over his career.

The weather in Chicago is forecast to be beautiful, with clear skies and temperatures in the upper 70's to low 80's. First pitch for the day game is at 1:20 P.M., CDT, while the night game will begin at 7:05 P.M., CDT. The day game will be televised on WGN, and the night game will be on CSN.
