Chapter one of the crosstown series will conclude on Wednesday evening at the Cell as the Cubs and the White Sox play the rubber match of their three game set. The Cubs made a mid-game comeback in game one to hang on for a 6-3 win, while the Sox turned the tables on Tuesday and grabbed a 3-2 win after a lengthy rain delay.
Pitching for the Cubs on Wednesday will be Doug Davis. Davis will look to build off of his first win of the year, which came against the Yankees in the first game of that series. On the year, Davis is 1-5 with a 4.95 ERA and 1.65 WHIP. In his career against the White Sox, Davis is 1-3 with a 5.00 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. Juan Pierre has a .393 average against Davis with three doubles and a triple in his career.
The White Sox will send once again returned starter Jake Peavy to the mound to counter Davis. Peavy is returning to the rotation after a minor DL stint, which he took after straining his groin on June 5th. In his career against the Cubs, Peavy is 5-2 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. Kosuke Fukudome has a .308 average against Peavy with three doubles.
The weather in Chicago is forecast to be mild, with a 50% chance of afternoon and evening showers and a game time temperature in the low 70's. First pitch is at 7:10 P.M., CDT, and the game will be televised on CSN (Cubs) and WCIU (Sox).
