Rahm Emanuel Inaugural Speech Gives Simeon Hoops A Shout-Out

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel focused his inaugural address Monday on education, and so it was fitting that he didn’t mention the Bears, Bulls, White Sox, Cubs or Blackhawks — but did mention a public school team.

Emanuel’s only reference to sports in the speech came when he was listing what makes him proud about Chicago Public Schools, including, “In the Simeon High School basketball team that just won back-to-back state championships and showed us what they are made of throughout the season.”

In addition to Emanuel’s plug, Simeon’s basketball team is getting plenty of national attention these days for its most famous graduate, Derrick Rose.
