Northern Illinois starting linebacker Devon Butler was shot last night in an off-campus incident. He is currently listed in critical condition at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Ill, according to The Daily Chronicle. From SB Nation:
Local media confirmed Butler as the shooting victim with NIU officials this morning, though news of Butler's shooting spread via Facebook and and Northern Illinois message boards before any official news was released.
Dekalb police reportedly have two suspects in custody, and more information about the incident would be available later in the day on Wednesday. NIU coach Dave Doeren is expected to make a statement on the matter later today.
Butler started as a junior for the Huskies this year, and registered 71 tackles en route to being named a 2010 All-Mac Third team defense.
