2011 Champs Sports Bowl, Notre Dame Vs. FSU: Irish WR Theo Riddick Will Play RB In Bowl

Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly said on Sunday that running back-turned-receiver Theo Riddick, who saw time back at running back in the Irish's final regular season game vs. the Stanford Cardinal, will be in the backfield for the Irish when they take on Florida State in the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl. Riddick, a junior, is third on the Irish in receiving, but started his career in South Bend as a running back, before being moved prior to his sophomore season.

The Irish turned to him against the Cardinal with starting back Jonas Gray injured, and with Gray not expected back for the bowl game, the Irish could use the depth. That said, he only rushed the ball four times vs. Stanford, and it's unclear how much playing time Riddick will see in the bowl game, or if he will line up at receiver at all. It's also unclear what this means for the future of Riddick's career at Notre Dame.
