Heading into this season, most fans would have guessed that a postseason matchup between Notre Dame and Florida St. would take place in a BCS game. However, with both teams failing to live up to preseason expectations, these programs will instead meed up in the Champs Sports Bowl.
The Champs Sports Bowl has had a steady run of enticing games thanks to its affiliation with the ACC and the Big East. Prior to 2010, the Champs Sports Bowl was affiliated with the Big 10 and the ACC. The bowl has the opportunity to matchup the third pick from the ACC with the second pick from the Big East. However, it can also select Notre Dame once every four years, which it has done this year.
In the Champs Sports Bowl last season, current Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson led North Carolina St. to a comfortable 23-7 victory over West Virginia. Wilson earned Most Valuable Player after throwing 2 TD's.
Game Time, Date: 4:30 p.m. CST, Thursday, Dec. 29
Location: Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, Orlando, Florida
2010 Winner And Loser: North Carolina St. 23, West Virginia 7
