Gunner Kiel Recruiting: Top QB To Become LSU Tiger

Five-star QB Gunner Kiel has ended his recruitment saga— or at least he says he has. The consensus No. 1 overall high school quarterback prospect committed today to Les Miles and the LSU Tigers over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Vanderbilt Commodores.

Conventional wisdom held that Kiel— a one-time Indiana Hoosier commit from Columbus, Ind.— would choose Brian Kelly and Notre Dame, but the pull of the Tigers and the SEC proved stronger. Kiel will step into a favorable situation in Baton Rouge, with LSU's top two quarterbacks— Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee— graduating. Kiel will presumably be in competition with JUCO transfer Zach Mettenberger, as well as 2011 freshman Stephen Rivers, the brother of San Diego Chargers' QB Phillip Rivers.

If Kiel lives up to his five-star billing, LSU having poached a top quarterback from Big 10 country will certainly be another trophy on the mantle of SEC fans.
