Northern Illinois Vs. Toledo: Many Records Broken In Rockets' 63-60 Win

Northern Illinois and Toledo put up a lot of points on Tuesday night. Each team put up 60 on the scoreboard in the 75th edition of the Glass Bowl. For comparison, the Florida Gators scored 47 points in the entire month of October. Unsurprisingly, the two teams invaded the MAC record books, in what will likely go down as one of the craziest games of the 2011 season. Here's the damage:

  • The two teams' 123 combined points were the most points ever scored in regulation in MAC history, and second overall to the 127 combined points scored in the 2011 match up between Eastern Michigan and Akron.
  • The two teams' 17 combined touchdowns broke the MAC record.
  • Toledo's Eric Page grabbed five touchdowns, tying the MAC record held by Randy Moss. Pretty good company.
  • Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish fired off six touchdowns, tying the record for second all-time in the conference, one short of the seven thrown in a 1997 game by Kent State's Jose Davis.
  • Northern Illinois Tommylee Lewis brought the first two kicks he saw back for touchdowns, tying both the NCAA and the MAC record. The two kick return touchdowns were the most in an FBS game since... well, last year, when our friend Eric Page housed two as well. Lewis' 212 total kick return yards are fourth most in MAC history, and he certainly would've broken that record had Toledo kicked to him at any point after the first quarter.

Thanks to its lockout, the NBA lost what was supposed to be its opening night on Tuesday. Maybe Northern Illinois and Toledo decided to do a tribute?
