Scoring a whopping 35 points in the first half alone, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-3) dominated the Navy Midshipmen (2-6). Though it does not erase the 31-17 loss last week against the USC Trojans, today's game certainly must be a boon to the Fighting Irish faithful.
Winning convincingly in a 56-14 score-fest, the Notre Dame offense went run-crazy, crossing the end-zone on foot a whopping seven times. Irishmen Jonas Gray (3), Cierre Wood (2), George Atkinson III (1), and Michael Floyd (1) all had rushing touchdowns. Floyd also added 121 receiving yards and a touchdown reception.
Quarterback Tommy Rees had a surprisingly average game, passing for 237 yards to go with a touchdown and an interception. The Notre Dame defense amazingly produced only one turnover, recovering a fumble early in the second quarter.
The Fighting Irish will be in action again next week against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
