Bears Waive 21, Set 53-Man Opening Day Roster

The Bears waived the following 21 players on Saturday:

Al Afalava, Freddie Barnes, Josh Beekman, Cornelius Brown, Jarron Gilbert, Levi Horn, Juaquin Iglesias, Dan LeFevour, Kevin Malast, James Marten, Greg Mathews, Quentin Scott, Tim Shaw, Kelvin Smith, Woodny Turenne, Barry Turner, Tim Walter, Aaron Webster, Eddie Williams, Edwin Williams and Mick Williams

Also, to cut down to the 53-man limit, the Bears terminated the contract of Richard Angulo, a vested veteran tight end who last played in the NFL with the Jaguars in 2008.

The only slight surprise on the list was Afalava, who started 13 games last year. Caleb Hanie will be retained as third QB, so LeFevour was cut; he may wind up (as may many of the rest of this list) on the practice squad, presuming he clears waivers. It also means that both Garrett Wolfe and Kahlil Bell will make the team as backup RB.
