There’s no Jean-Luc Picard nor Riker involved here, but the sons of well-known figures in the sports world are making news this morning.
↵Kyle Williams, son of White Sox GM Kenny Williams, will be a member of the San Francisco 49ers this year:
↵↵↵The 49ers drafted Williams, out of Arizona State, with the No. 206 pick of the NFL draft. He led Arizona State last season as a senior with 57 receptions for 815 yards and eight touchdowns. He also received All-Pac-10 honors as a punt returner.
↵
And the Bulls have invited John Lucas III to training camp with a partially guaranteed contract:
↵↵↵The contract might not be signed until closer to the start of camp later this month, sources said, so the Bulls can retain roster flexibility in case a trade materializes in the next few weeks that would necessitate the use of the roster spot earmarked for Lucas.
↵But Lucas, sources said, has been invited to camp with the idea that he can make Chicago’s opening night roster. Lucas’ one-year deal for the league minimum would become fully guaranteed if the 28-year-old can stay on the Bulls’ roster past Jan. 10.

Lucas is the son of former NBA player and coach John Lucas; the younger Lucas has played in the NBA before, with the Houston Rockets. Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau was a Rockets assistant at the time.
