Cubs Hold Giants To Six Hits; Marmol Posts 34th Save

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) – Kosuke Fukudome hit a solo homer in the third inning and Randy Wells pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings, as the Chicago Cubs defeated the San Francisco Giants, 2-0, in the second test of a three-game series at Wrigley Field.

Wells (8-13) gave up six hits to win his second straight start for the Cubs, who have won seven of eight. The right-hander also struck out six and walked one.

Freddy Sanchez had two hits for the Giants, who fell into a tie with San Diego atop the NL West standings. The Padres play the Dodgers later Wednesday.

Jonathan Sanchez (11-9) allowed two runs — one earned — on four hits over 5 2/3 frames. It was his first loss since August 13 against San Diego.
