Coach Lovie Smith On The Bears' Big Win

Lovie on the importance of the win:

It was a signature game, as we say. At halftime we talked to the guys about putting their names behind that second half performance and really the entire game. Dallas is one of the favorites to win the NFC, so we’re playing a good football team and wanted to see exactly how we matched up. You can’t go a whole lot on the preseason, you have to get to the regular season to you are. That first game set the bar, you want to make improvements. Normally there’s a big improvement on that second game and we got better today.

Lovie on how good Jay Cutler can be:

That’s hard to say, I’m looking forward to see exactly how far he can go. This is how Jay’s been playing. You go all the way back to last year and how he finished up the season--he’s a good football player. Again we have weapons and guys are doing a great job with them.

Lovie on preparation for the Packers game:

We’re going to do what we normally do. Work on third down. You have to give the Cowboys a lot of credit, they’re a good football team. Some days it just doesn’t happen. We had some good plays, they made some plays. We’re not there yet, second game of the year, we have to improve. We have a big game coming up, we’ll be better on third downs and everything else.
