Cubs Draw 12 Walks in 13-3 Blowout Of Marlins, Colvin Injured

Miami, FL (Sports Network) – Welington Castillo hit a two-run homer and drove in three, and Jeff Baker went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and scored twice, as the Chicago Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the Florida Marlins with 13-3 rout at Sun Life Stadium.

Bobby Scales and Brad Snyder each contributed with two RBI for the Cubs, who extended their season-high winning streak to six games. Tyler Colvin drew an RBI walk and scored a run, but left after getting hit in the chest teammate’s broken bat in the second inning.

With Colvin on third, Castillo hit a broken bat ground-rule double to left. As Colvin was scoring, a splinter caught Colvin in the left side, causing a puncture wound below the collarbone. Colvin was rushed to a local hospital for X-rays and the Cubs said he was in stable condition.

Jeff Samardzija (2-1), making his second start of the season, threw six solid innings, yielding three runs on three hits with three walks and struck out four. In his other start, the right-hander allowed six hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings in Chicago’s 5-1 win at St. Louis on September 13.
