Miami, FL (Sports Network) – Ryan Dempster threw seven shutout innings to help the Chicago Cubs take a 2-0 win over the Florida Marlins in the opener of a three-game set.
Dempster (14-10) gave up four hits and three walks with five strikeouts for the Cubs, who have won four straight. Geovany Soto and Alfonso Soriano each drove in a run. Starlin Castro made a diving catch with two out and two on to help Carlos Marmol preserve the win; Marmol posted his 32nd save.
Alex Sanabia (4-3) was touched for two runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings for the Marlins, who have dropped their last four games. Logan Morrison and Chad Tracy each hit a double in the loss.
