Blackhawks To Extend Coach Q's Contract

The Blackhawks have called a news conference for 2:30 Thursday afternoon; they are expected at that time to announce a contract extension for coach Joel Quenneville.

A few more details about Coach Q's career here:

Quenneville, who led the Hawks to the Stanley Cup championship last season, was hired by the team as a pro scout in September 2008. He was named head coach the following month after the team fired Denis Savard four games into the season. He was entering the last year of his contract.

Quenneville is the 37th coach in Hawks' history, and has 535 wins in a 13-year coaching career with St. Louis, Colorado and Chicago.

The Blackhawks are getting ready to begin training camp -- seems as if the Stanley Cup winning game was just a few weeks ago -- and will host a Training Camp Festival (already sold out) for fans at the United Center on Saturday.
