First Big Ten Title Game To... Indianapolis

The Big Ten has selected Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium as the proposed site to host the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game in 2011.

The league announced Thursday afternoon that it will begin a 30-day period to negotiate a one-year agreement with Indiana Sports Corp and Lucas Oil Stadium. After that agreement is in place, the league will conduct a thorough process to find a home for the game in 2012 and beyond.

The game will be held in December 2011; the following February, the Super Bowl will be held in the same stadium.

SB Nation Chicago is on record as including Chicago’s Soldier Field as a possible site for future Big Ten championship games. Early December can be decent football weather in Chicago — and why not prove that Big Ten football players are tough and can handle it?

Here’s hoping Chicago gets to host one of those games in 2012 or beyond.
