Carlos Marmol Posts 24th Save; Cubs Win 3-2

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Kosuke Fukudome hit the game-winning two- run home run and Randy Wells spun six solid frames as Chicago edged Cincinnati, 3-2, in the middle meeting of a three-game set.

Fukudome finished 2-for-3 and Xavier Nady also went deep for the Cubs, who have won four of their last five.

Wells (6-12) allowed two runs on six hits while walking two and fanning four and Carlos Marmol closed the door in the ninth by retiring the side in order to earn his 24th save.

Bronson Arroyo (14-8) suffered the loss after he yielded three runs on five hits and did not walk a batter while striking out five for the Reds, who are still four games ahead off St. Louis in the NL Central.

Nady's solo home run with one out in the second inning put the visitors on the board first. Jay Bruce, who hit three home runs in Friday's game, scaled the wall in right to take away a potential long ball from Fukudome to end the inning.

Joey Votto's leadoff long ball, his career-best 32nd, got the game tied in the fourth.

The Cubs grabbed the lead back for good when Tyler Colvin singled to start the fifth and scored when Fukudome followed by leaving with a home run into the bullpen in right.

Scott Rolen doubled with one out in the home sixth, moved to third on a Jonny Gomes single and scored on a Ryan Hanigan base hit to make it a one-run game. However, Wells worked out of further trouble when Drew Stubbs flied out and Paul Janish bounced out to end the threat.

James Russell took over and worked around a two-out single by Chris Valaika to throw a scoreless seventh and was followed by Andrew Cashner, who tossed a perfect eighth inning in front of Marmol.
