Via tweet from the Tribune’s Mark Gonzales, the Sox have made two roster moves:
Putz and Thornton on DL, Harrell and Threets called up
J.J. Putz (10.53 K/9, 2.68/2.63 ERA/FIP) and Matt Thornton (12.17 K/9 2.66/2.30 ERA/FIP) have been mainstays of the Sox bullpen this year. Right-hander Putz is suffering from right knee tendinitis, while lefty fireballer Thornton has left elbow inflammation. Both are now on the 15-day DL and, without them, the Sox will have to entrust late-inning duties to Sergio Santos and Bobby Jenks.
A little more on their replacements: Lucas Harrell is a right-hander who has been throwing for Triple-A Charlotte, and Erick Threets is a southpaw originally from the San Francisco Giants system, who made his Sox debut this season and is coming off a 15-day DL stint himself.
