Cubs' Lou Piniella To Retire After Sunday's Game

Cubs manager Lou Piniella has announced that he will retire after Sunday's game to go home to Tampa to be with his ailing mother.

Piniella announced his retirement in July, to take effect at the end of the season, but now he says "the several weeks since that announcement was made have been very difficult on a family level."

Third base coach Mike Quade will take over for the rest of the season. General manager Jim Hendry says Quade will be considered for the fulltime job next year, but bench coach Alan Trammell will not be.

More details to come via SB Nation Chicago.
