Matt Gutierrez In Bears Camp; Signing Announcement Expected Wednesday

Brad Biggs reported in the Tribune:

A couple of hours after Todd Collins turned down the Bears and Josh McCown said no for the final time, Matt Gutierrez got on a plane in California to join the team as its newest reserve quarterback.

Gutierrez arrived at camp Tuesday evening, and his signing is expected to be announced Wednesday morning.

The difference in quarterbacks — which came down to $150,000 in the form of a signing bonus Collins wanted and a contract McCown has in the United Football League — might be felt only by Caleb Hanie.

Biggs also writes that the Bears are likely to go with only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, which means Dan LeFevour will be a training camp memory, and it will be up to Caleb Hanie to keep his backup job over Gutierrez during the preseason’s three remaining games.
