Greg Maddux, Cubs Shut Out White Sox

Has The Deep Dish gone off the deep end? Maddux hasn’t played for the Cubs since 2006, and they’re not playing the Sox right now…

… except in ESPN Chicago’s Ultimate Rivalry, simulating a seven-game series between rosters chosen earlier by fans on ESPN Chicago’s website. I’d have chosen Phil Cavarretta for 1B instead of Mark Grace; Cavvy played in three World Series for the Cubs.

In Game One, Maddux threw a four-hit shutout and the Cubs won 7-0. For his part, Grace proved his worth to the team by homering and driving in three runs. Games One and Two are at the Cell; the series continues tomorrow.
