Crain’s Chicago Business’ Ed Sherman says that maybe this isn’t such a good idea so early:
↵↵↵Yes, it does seem a little early, considering there were more than 50 games left when this note went out. A good friend of mine, a doom-and-gloom Sox fan, said the fact the Sox sent out the note is an “indication the end is near.” After losing three out of four to Baltimore and two out of three to Minnesota, he contends the Sox want to get the deposits in “before they’re 10 games out of first.”
↵“Looks like I’ll add to my collection of post-season tickets that never got used,” said my friend, who has been down this road before.

In past years, the Sox have required season-ticket holders to apply any funds from unused postseason tickets to the following year’s season tickets or lose their seating location. This may be one reason for the early request.
