Teahen To Return From DL Friday; Viciedo Optioned

Mark Teahen will be activated from the DL in time for Friday’s game:

But the Sox did option 21-year-old third baseman Dayan Viciedo to Triple-A Charlotte after the game and are expected to activate infielder Mark Teahen in time for Friday night’s game against Detroit.

Viciedo, 21, who signed a four-year, $10 million contract with the Sox prior to the 2009 season after leaving Cuba, showed flashes of the power that earned him that lucrative contract.

But Viciedo didn’t draw a walk in 82 at-bats and was hitless in his final 15 at-bats. He batted .268 with three home runs and seven RBIs in 27 games and will likely work on his plate discipline during the next three weeks with Charlotte before he’s likely to be promoted on Sept. 1.

Teahen batted .364 in 11 games during his rehab assignment with Charlotte, where he played third and first base and right field. He is expected to handle the same duties with the Sox for at least the remainder of the season.
