Lilly's Rotation Slot Will Be Taken By Thomas Diamond On Tuesday

Via Bruce Miles’ Daily Herald blog:

The Cubs said today that Randy Wells will pitch Monday’s series opener at Wrigley against the Brewers and that they’d call up righty Thomas Diamond from Class AAA Iowa to start Tuesday and fill that little vacancy left by the trade of Ted Lilly to the Dodgers.

Diamond, 27, as many of you know, was shortened up in his most recent start at Iowa just in case Lilly was moved. At Iowa, Diamond is 5-4 with a 3.16 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. In 108.1 innings, he has struck out 104 and walked 46. He’s a protégé of Cubs assistant GM Randy Bush, who coached him at the University of New Orleans and was instrumental in claiming him from the Rangers last September.

Blake DeWitt is expected to make his Cubs debut on Sunday.
