More On Da Gorz: Trade Bait?

On Friday, The Deep Dish asked “Should The Cubs Look To Trade The Gorz?”

Notwithstanding the question whether it should be “The Gorz” or, in fine Chicago style, “Da Gorz”, Gordon Wittenmyer asked the same question in today’s Sun-Times:

Sources say the Cubs have no immediate plans to trade the left-hander they acquired with John Grabow from Pittsburgh last July. But if the five pitchers currently in the Cubs’ rotation stay healthy and pitch well between now and the July 31 non-waiver deadline, they may eventually decide to fill a need by trading the career starter they’ve already said publicly is ‘’not conducive’’ to his current relief role.

Well. If Ted Lilly is not re-signed after his contract expires at the end of this season, the cost-controlled Gorz could be a competent replacement. But he could also bring a decent return (and maybe bullpen help, something he’s not really suited for) for the same reason.

Choices, choices. What will Jim Hendry decide to do?
