The altercation between Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano and first baseman Derrek Lee last week has led to the pitcher being placed on the restricted list according to Chicago Breaking Sports.
Carlos Zambrano will be placed on the restricted list, undergo a treatment program for his anger issues and will not return to the team until after the All-Star break, the Cubs said Monday.
Cubs general manager Jim Hendry spoke to representatives from Major League Baseball and the players union on Monday, and also spoke to Zambrano and his agent.
Zambrano’s indefinite suspension will be limited to three games, ending after Monday night’s game. He will be placed on the restricted list Tuesday.
“I think we all agree it’s time he got help and address apologies later,” Hendry said. “He will not meet formally or travel with the team before the (All-Star) break.”
Reliever Jeff Stevens will rejoin the team Wednesday.
