We hear about it a lot as sports fans. Umpires unnecessarily ejecting players and managers. Blowing calls. Sometimes to disastrous effect.
↵Over in the NBA, the frequent punching bag for officiating jokes, we've had betting scandals with refs, and refs who frequently seem to lose their sense of sight during the sport's most important series.
↵Even college sports aren't immune from refs who make questionable calls or have seriously sketchy backgrounds.
↵On the international front, does it ever get old talking about the French and Russian figure skating judges? Not really.
↵It seems, no matter where you go, bad refs happen. And now, they've happened to the World Cup.
↵Officiating issues in the 2010 World Cup have been cropping up throughout the group play round, but Friday's games perhaps take the cake. First, a dominant German squad gets hit by a series of questionable yellow and red cards, eventually resulting in the ejection of Miroslav Klose, and sending Germany to its first loss in group play since the 1980s.
↵Later that same day, the Americans were denied a comeback victory over Slovenia on a non-call that was never explained by the official who disallowed their go-ahead goal.
↵With all of these bad calls, comparisons are bound to occur. So, in the spirit of a good beer and wings debate, we ask you, which sport has the worst refs?
