Via tweet from Tribune Sox beat writer Mark Gonzales, Viciedo has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte, where he was hitting .288/.328/.515 with 13 HR in 233 at-bats. Though a third baseman, Viciedo has played mostly first base in the minors this year.

Jayson Nix was designated for assignment to make room for Viciedo. Sun-Times Sox beat writer Joe Cowley tweets that Nix is out of options and “Oz said he hopes someone picks up Nix”.

Viciedo will make his major league debut Friday in Washington … against Stephen Strasburg.
