Three Weeks Too Late, Cubs Put Grabow On DL, Recall Cashner

More than three weeks ago — on May 8 — it was reported that Cubs reliever John Grabow had knee problems.

But when Grabow’s MRI showed “no structural problems”, he went back to pitching after a few days off. Since then he’s made eight appearances, allowed 13 hits and five walks in 8.1 innings, and posted a 9.72 ERA. (Not that he was much better before that, either — 19 hits, six walks and a 9.26 ERA in 11.2 innings prior to the MRI.)

Today, we learn that “knee tendinitis” is sending Grabow to the DL, and 2008 #1 pick Andrew Cashner will be recalled today.

↵

Why would you wait to do this when there was an obvious problem? Grabow’s poor pitching cost them the game on May 20 in Philadelphia and put yesterday’s game out of reach.

Better late than never, I guess, but Cubs management is going to have to react more quickly to troubles like this.
