St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - Carlos Pena capped a four-run fourth inning with a three-run double, as the Tampa Bay Rays held off the Chicago White Sox, 8-5, in the third installment of a four-game set at Tropicana Field.
Evan Longoria went 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored for the Rays, who improved to 24-1 this season when they score five or more runs. B.J. Upton hit a solo home run for the victors.
Wade Davis (5-4) went 6 1/3 innings in the start, allowing three runs on six hits to pick up the win for Tampa Bay, which had lost four of five coming into Saturday. Rafael Soriano recorded his 14th save of the year.
Carlos Quentin and Alexei Ramirez each homered for the White Sox, who won 4-2 on Friday after dropping the series opener. Paul Konerko went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in defeat.
John Danks (4-4) had his worst outing of the season, lasting a season-low four-plus frames. He gave up a season-high eight runs on eight hits with three walks. Danks fell to 5-2 in seven lifetime starts versus Tampa Bay.
The Rays drew first blood with a run in the first. Carl Crawford reached base when he grounded into a fielder's choice and scored on Longoria's double down the left-field line. Tampa Bay went on to strand the bases loaded.
Quentin's two-run homer in the second gave Chicago a 2-1 edge. Konerko led off with a single and crossed the plate two batters later when Quentin blasted a 1-1 fastball over the wall in left-center field. The White Sox ended up stranding runners on second and third.
Tampa Bay scored a run in the third to tie things up. Longoria hit a one-out double to center and came around to score on John Jaso's base hit to right.
After the White Sox left men on the corners in the top of the fourth, the Rays plated four runs in the home half to take a 6-2 lead. Reid Brignac tripled to center and scored two batters later on Gabe Kapler's sacrifice bunt. Tampa Bay went on to load the bases with two outs for Pena, who cleared the bases with a double to left-center.
The Rays added two more runs in the fifth to build an 8-2 margin. Upton started things with a solo homer to left-center. With runners on the corners and one out, Sean Rodriguez drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt.
Ramirez hit a solo homer in the seventh to cut the gap to five. Konerko hit an RBI double off Dan Wheeler in the eighth and scored on a wild pitch to account for the final margin.
