In a video posted on mlb.com, a weary-looking Ozzie Guillen commented on his run-in with Umpire Joe West. If you’re expecting a profanity-laced rant, you may be surprised. OK, he does drop a couple naughty words – including a straight-up insult of West, but he actually comes across as fairly reasonable about the situation.
Meanwhile, Joe West appeared on ESPN radio’s Waddle & Silvy show on Thursday to give his side of the story. West pointed out that, among other things, Buerhle had been drawing lines in the dirt on the pitcher’s mound to demonstrate he wasn’t moving his leg improperly.
MLB Director of Discipline Bob Watson is looking into the matter – including the possibility that West could be disciplined for provoking Buerhle and Guillen. If he is, don’t expect to hear much about it. Disciplinary actions toward umpires aren’t publicly disclosed.
