Derrek Lee Powers Cubs To 3-0 Victory Over Dodgers

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Ryan Dempster dominated the Dodgers over eight shutout frames, and Derrek Lee drove in all of Chicago's runs in a 3-0 victory.

Dempster (3-4) struck out seven, walked one and scattered just three hits in outdueling Clayton Kershaw (4-3), who had won three straight starts coming into Tuesday's game. The Dodgers southpaw gave up one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six frames.

Lee hit his sixth home run of the season in the eighth and singled home the other run for the Cubs, who have won three in a row.

The Dodgers managed as many singles (three) as errors in dropping their second straight.

The game's first run came in the bottom of the sixth with the aid of shoddy defense. Ryan Theriot reached on a fielding error by Rafael Furcal then stole second and scored on Lee's single to center.

The Dodgers had two men on base in both the second and fourth frames, but failed to score. Starting with Xavier's Paul's strikeout to end a scoring opportunity in the fourth, Cubs pitching retired 16 straight Dodgers to end the game.

Chicago added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth as Lee's two-run shot made the score 3-0.

The Dodgers activated Furcal off the 15-day disabled list prior to the game, while reliever George Sherrill took his place on the DL with a stiff back. Furcal started in his customary leadoff spot and finished 0-for-4 with a pair of errors...Kershaw has surrendered two earned runs over his last four starts, spanning 28 1/3 frames.
