The Cubs are without third baseman Aramis Ramirez today as he sits to rest a sore thumb hurt during an at-bat. Mike Fontenot starts at third today. This loss is a potential blow for the Cubs as it seemed like Ramirez was just getting back into his offensive groove.
Through the second Ryan Dempster gave up only two hits and a walk, unfortunately one of those hits was a solo home run to Chase Utley.
Heading into the top of the sixth the Cubs had managed just two hits off of Joe Blanton. Those two, an Alfonso Soriano double and Starlin Castro single, were good enough to tie the game at 1-1 however.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ryan Dempster gave up his second home run of the game, this one a long shot to Phillies short stop Jimmy Rollins. Rollins' shot plated three, and the Phils took a 4-1 lead.
