↵Apparently neither Paul Konerko nor his agent are focusing on the trade speculation surrounding the the slumping White Sox these days. Konerko, who leads the AL in home runs, would seem like tasty bait for Kenny Williams to dangle in front of suitors.
↵Yet, one wonders, would the White Sox really trade Konerko? It’s true, the Sox first baseman will be a free agent at the end of the season, but that seems to be one of the only things that points to him getting dealt.
↵Unlike fellow soon-to-be free agent A.J. Pierzynski, Konerko isn’t blocking the top prospect in the Sox farm system. He’s also been one of the most consistent hitters for the Sox over the last several years and is a fan favorite. Unless the Sox feel they won’t have the salary space to resign Konerko at the end of the season, it seems unlikely that we’ll see him in another uniform this season.
