You might think I ripped off that headline from the National Enquirer, but, according to Chicago Breaking Sports' article about Zenyatta, it's true.
↵↵The six-year-old mare, who is running in the Breeders Cup Classic and a chance to retire with a perfect 20-0 record (you can watch on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. CDT on ESPN), is being invited to Ireland (really, the trip is for trainer John Shirreffs and owners Jerry and Ann Moss) because she loves Guinness beer:
↵↵Shirreffs is known to open a bottle of Guinness and pour it into a bowl for Zenyatta in the afternoon. He says she'll only drink the dark Irish stout with its creamy head.↵↵
Just in case you thought the Deep Dish was making this up, there's video evidence:
↵↵↵↵And, just in case you want to lift a pint with Zenyatta:
↵↵Guinness brand director Patrick Hughes ... reminds all thoroughbreds and the race fans who love them that Guinness is best enjoyed responsibly.↵↵
Wise advice. And no, we don't think Zenyatta will really be drunk when she runs tomorrow.
