Caron Butler added 22 points and Jason Terry 13 for the Mavericks, who made 27 free throws to just 18 attempts for Chicago. Dallas also owned the backboards, 54-34, which may be a familiar theme for the Bulls without newly-acquired center Carlos Boozer, who is recovering from a broken hand.
Derrick Rose scored 17 points, Joakim Noah added 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Kyle Korver and Keith Bogans added 10 points apiece in defeat. Other new faces, Ronnie Brewer and CJ Watson also did not see any action.
Chicago took a 71-70 lead on Kurt Thomas' jumper with nine minutes left in the game, but Butler's long jumper put the Mavericks ahead to stay at 76-75 and started a nine-point stretch that created breathing room.
