Thanks to a walk-off RBI single from Orlando Hudson, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 on Thursday night at U.S. Cellular Field. The victory helps Chicago to avoid a sweep and extend its lead over the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central standings.

While the two teams traded leads early, the White Sox entered the bottom of the ninth in a tie game after the Blue Jays had threatened in the top frame. Hudson came through with two outs, though, knocking in Dayan Viciedo after a crucial wild pitch by Francisco Cordero allowed him to advance a base.

The White Sox initially led 1-0 after the first inning, but they needed a two-run homer from Alex Rios in the sixth inning to tie the game back up at 3-3 after the Blue Jays had opened up a two-run lead with three runs in the third inning.

Both teams put a runner in scoring position in the ninth inning, but it was Chicago that capitalized on its opportunity. Sox closer Addison Reed allowed a double to Jose Bautista with two outs in the top of the ninth, but he struck out Kelly Johnson to end the inning.

Rios was the lead performer for Chicago on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI against his former team. The White Sox also got two hits apiece from Hudson and Paul Konerko, who made his return to the lineup after a few days off.

The Chicago White Sox are once again trailing to the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, this time by a score of 3-1 through the fifth inning. The White Sox are hoping to avoid a sweep, which would certainly seem to signify the end of Chicago's recent hot streak.

Blue Jays pitching has continued to confound White Sox hitters on Thursday, as Henderson Alvarez has allowed just one run on four hits through his first five innings on Thursday. Chicago initially led 1-0 after the first inning, but White Sox starter Jake Peavy faltered in the third frame to relinquish the advantage.

A two-run single by Mike McCoy with the bases loaded allowed the Blue Jays to take back the lead in a single swing, and they added an insurance run later in the inning on an error by shortstop Alexei Ramirez.

Overall, Peavy has allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking four. Those four walks already represent the most that Peavy has had in an outing this season.

John Danks Injury: White Sox LHP Will Make Rehab Start On Tuesday

White Sox lefty John Danks is getting closer to a return to the team, but before he comes back to Chicago he's going to make a rehab start for the triple-A Charlotte Knights. According to Danks, that start is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12 against the Columbus Clippers.

White Sox Promote Jordan Danks With Kosuke Fukudome Ailing

The Chicago White Sox promoted outfielder Jordan Danks to the MLB roster on Thursday, according to Mark Gonzalez of the Chicago Tribune. Danks has struggled with a high strikeout rate for most of his career as a White Sox prospect, but with Kosuke Fukudome out (ribcage injury) Chicago is looking for another outfielder to throw in the mix and Danks brings plus defense at multiple positions. In 2012, Danks has posted a career-high .419 on-base percentage over 234 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte, and he has amassed a very respectable .302/.419/.516 triple-slash batting line overall.

Danks will join the team on Thursday and is expected to be available for the finale of the team's three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays that same night.

The Chicago White Sox will turn to right-hander Jake Peavy on Thursday as the team tries to avoid a home sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto will send out 22-year old starter Henderson Alvarez.

The Sox had won 14 of 16 being running into Toronto. Chicago has lost both games this series without star first baseman Paul Konerko, who reportedly plans on returning to the lineup from a wrist injury on Thursday.

Peavy has been excellent for Chicago this season, entering at 6-1 with a 3.05 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. Alvarez is 3-5 with a 3.75 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.

The Chicago White Sox were on a roll, but the Toronto Blue Jays have halted it abruptly. The Blue Jays won their second straight game at U.S. Cellular Field on Wednesday night as starter Brandon Morrow blanked the Sox 4-0 with a complete game shutout.

Toronto center fielder Colby Rasmus singled to center field in the fifth to score Rajai Davis and get scoring started. Toronto scored another run in the sixth when slugging first baseman Jose Bautista clubbed his 15th home run of the year. The Blue Jays added two more in the ninth off a homer from Davis, his fourth of the year.

Marrow allowed only two hits while striking out five in the win. The victory lifts the Blue Jays to 30-26, while the Sox fall to 31-25.
