College football rankings 2012: Notre Dame remains on top of BlogPoll

Notre Dame remained on top of the SB Nation BlogPoll Top 25 after the final week of the college football season. Northern Illinois and Northwestern both finished in the top 25 as well.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on top of the final pre-bowl game SB Nation BlogPoll Top 25. Alabama stayed at No. 2 in the BlogPoll after defeating Georgia in the SEC Championship. The Irish and Crimson Tide will meet in the Discover BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 7 in Miami, Fla..

Notre Dame received 42 first place votes this week, down from the 61 they received last week. The lowest ranking the Irish received this week was fifth.

The Northern Illinois Huskies moved up three spots in the rankings this week to No. 16 after defeating Kent State in the MAC Championship. Northern Illinois will play Florida State (No. 13) in the Discover Orange Bowl on Jan. 1. They are the first MAC team to play in a BCS bowl game.

The Northwestern Wildcats also appeared in the BlogPoll this week, coming in at No. 21. Northwestern will play Mississippi State in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl on Jan. 1.
